How Much Does a Contractor Website Cost?
Short answer: A contractor website can cost anywhere from a do-it-yourself monthly subscription to many thousands for a custom agency build. What actually sets the price is how many pages it has, who writes and maintains it, and whether it’s built to rank and get calls or just to exist. The cheapest option often costs the most in missed jobs.
What drives the price
- Number of pages. A single page with your services listed is quick to build. A page for each service and the areas you cover takes more work, and it’s what ranks.
- Who writes the content. Copy written around how customers actually search takes time. Templates with your logo dropped in don’t.
- SEO setup. Titles, descriptions, Google-readable business info, a sitemap and fast load times. Basic sites often skip this entirely.
- Hosting and maintenance. Someone has to keep it online, secure, backed up and updated.
- Updates. New services, new photos, seasonal offers. Are changes included or billed per request?
What a trades website should include
Whatever you pay, make sure you get:
- Tap-to-call phone number on every page
- A page for each core service
- Fast loading on a phone
- A contact form that reaches you right away
- Your service areas spelled out
- Real photos and reviews
- Basic SEO: unique page titles and descriptions, Google Business Profile linked, sitemap submitted
- SSL (the padlock in the browser) and regular backups
The hidden costs of a cheap site
A cheap site that doesn’t rank, loads slowly on phones, or makes it hard to call costs you every week in jobs that went to the shop down the road. DIY builders also cost your time: every update, every fix, every “why isn’t this working” is on you or someone in the office.
The other trap is lock-in. Make sure your domain is in your name and you can leave with your site.
What Roughneck charges
We publish our prices because trades owners are tired of “call for a quote.” Our website plans have a one-time setup fee and a flat monthly fee:
- Presence: $299 setup, $59/month. A single-page site with hosting, SSL, daily backups, contact form, click-to-call and basic on-page SEO. Launches in 5–7 business days.
- Growth: $299 setup, $99/month. Up to 10 pages, full on-page SEO, and 2 hours of updates every month. Launches in 10–14 business days.
The monthly fee covers hosting, security, backups and upkeep, not a second build charge. Website plans have a 3-month minimum, then go month-to-month. See every detail on our pricing page, or read more about websites for contractors.
Frequently asked questions
Should I own my website?
You should own your domain and your content. Whatever platform you use, make sure your domain is registered in your name and you can take your site with you.
How long does it take to build a contractor website?
A simple one-page site can launch in about a week. A multi-page site with a page for each service usually takes two weeks or more, mostly waiting on photos, service details and reviews from the business.
Do I need a new website or just better SEO?
If your site is slow on phones, has one page for every service, or is hard to call from, fix the site first. SEO and ads send traffic, but the site has to convert it.
